Why can't the mobile phone be charged when the weather is cold?

It is true that we will encounter such problems when using mobile phones, and the sensitivity of different brands of batteries to temperature is different. Some mobile phones cannot be charged when the temperature is lower than 0℃ when charging. The reason for this is the following:

1. Low charging efficiency at low temperature:

This is because the activity and conductivity of electrolyte become worse at low temperature, so the charging time at low temperature is much longer than at room temperature when charging to the same capacity. For consumers, the specific impact is that if the charging time is not long enough at low temperature and the battery will not be saturated, then the standby and talk time will be shorter.

2. Charging at low temperature will cause the loss or damage of the permanent capacity of the battery;

This is due to the special structure of lithium ion batteries. At low temperature, the activity, migration and embedding ability of lithium ions become poor, and it is easy to deposit on the surface of graphite crystals to form metallic lithium. The formed lithium metal will react irreversibly with the electrolyte. Long-term low-temperature charging of lithium-ion battery will obviously reduce the capacity of the battery.

However, many big brand manufacturers will consider these problems when designing batteries and solve them well.
