Xuzhou now governs 5 municipal districts, 3 counties and 2 county-level cities.

In the fifth year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty (1855), the Yellow River changed its course again and entered the Bohai Sea via Shandong.

The eastern part has a warm temperate humid monsoon climate, and the western part has a warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate, which is greatly influenced by the southeast monsoon.
