Why does the fuel consumption of cars suddenly increase in winter?
The decrease of thermal efficiency leads to the increase of fuel injection and fuel consumption.
Under the same working conditions, the fuel consumption of vehicles increases in winter because more heat energy is needed in winter, and the engine must do more work to maintain the working temperature. If the viscosity of engine oil is high in winter, the temperature of engine body is low, and the atomization effect of fuel oil is poor, a considerable part of fuel oil will be discharged without full combustion and will not be converted into useful work. In order to maintain the original output power, the engine will inevitably increase the fuel injection.
In addition, because the cooling liquid will take away some heat in the circulation, the heat taken away by cold water is more in winter than in summer, so it is difficult to maintain the normal working temperature of the engine. In this case, the engine will also maintain normal operation by increasing fuel injection.
Therefore, choose the correct grade of oil. The viscosity of engine oil is directly related to the fuel consumption of the engine. At low temperature, the higher the viscosity of engine oil, the greater the resistance when the engine is running, the lower the energy efficiency and the higher the fuel consumption. If the temperature is low in winter, it is best to replace the engine oil with good fluidity and low viscosity at low temperature in time, such as YACCO synthetic engine oil, numbered 0W40, 5W40, 0W20, 0W30, 5W20 and 5W30.
The hot air in the car causes the engine to do extra work-the fuel consumption increases.
Turning on the air conditioner in summer will cause part of the kinetic energy of the engine to be lost on the air conditioner compressor, and the increase in fuel consumption is understandable. Heating the air in winter has nothing to do with the air-conditioning compressor, but the wrong method will also increase fuel consumption. The heat energy in warm air comes from the engine, and heating with the heat energy of the engine will inevitably cool the engine. Although the engine will produce a lot of waste heat energy during operation, its operating efficiency will not reach the highest value before the engine temperature rises to a predetermined value. Therefore, if the warm air is turned on when the engine temperature is low, it will not only affect the engine preheating, but also fail to heat normally. In addition, when the vehicle is just started after being fully warmed up, although the water temperature is normal, the hot air is not enough. If the warm air is turned on at this time, the engine will be forced to do passive work and supply heat in advance, which will increase the extra fuel consumption.
The correct way is to turn on the warm air after the engine temperature rises to a higher value, which can not only avoid blocking the engine preheating to the maximum extent, but also obtain good heating effect.
Long preheating time-increased fuel consumption
When the vehicle is in a high temperature state, the engine temperature rises slowly. When the engine is in a low temperature state for a long time, the fuel nozzle can't atomize the fuel well, and the engine can't fully burn the fuel, which will not only increase the fuel consumption in a short time, but also adsorb the residual fuel to the engine parts, which will become carbon deposit for a long time, affecting the power, increasing the fuel consumption and affecting the engine life. If the hot car method is wrong, the fuel consumption will definitely increase greatly.
The correct way to warm up the car is to start the car for 1-2 minutes, then idle for about 1 minute, and then slowly accelerate. Don't let the speed exceed 2000 rpm before the water temperature reaches 50 degrees. Hot cars are more efficient and faster during driving, which can not only reduce fuel consumption, but also protect the engine.
In addition to the above weather reasons, there are also some "fault" reasons.
The oxygen sensor is damaged.
The oxygen sensor is mainly responsible for monitoring the oil-gas ratio of the engine. Once damaged, the oil-gas ratio will be out of balance, and the computer will not know how much oil to supply, so the fuel consumption will naturally increase.
The way to check whether the oxygen sensor is damaged is to put it in neutral, let people around you sit in the car and step on the gas pedal, and then go to the back to see if there is black smoke from the exhaust pipe. If there is black smoke, it means that the oxygen sensor has been replaced and can only be replaced. If there is white smoke, it may be that the engine cylinder gasket is worn.
The water temperature sensor is damaged.
The water temperature sensor transmits the temperature of the coolant to the ECU. If the sensor fails, the information it sends to the ECU is always that the water temperature is too low, then the ECU will continuously increase the fuel injection quantity to raise the temperature, so the fuel consumption will also increase.
You can only go to a professional repair shop to check whether the diagnostic instrument is faulty. If it is broken, you need a new one.
Thermostat failure
Thermostat is a valve to control the flow of coolant, and it is an automatic temperature regulating device.
Once the thermostat fails, it will force the engine to warm up for a long time or the temperature is too low. The computer will increase the fuel injection according to the signal of the water temperature sensor, so the fuel consumption will also increase.
In addition, the increase in fuel consumption caused by weather is inevitable. For example, if it snows slowly, starting the four-wheel drive mode and installing snow chains will increase fuel consumption. Low temperature will also lead to tightening of vehicle bearings, poor lubrication effect, increased driving resistance and reduced transmission efficiency of gearbox. Fuel consumption will also be affected.
Reduce oil consumption in winter, accumulate it bit by bit, and use appropriate engine oil to avoid unnecessary oil consumption. ?
