It is also known as the world's five major Buddhist holy places or five famous Buddhist mountains, together with Lumbini Garden in Nepal, Lokku Yaweng, Bodh Gaya and Jaishan Naga in India. Mount Wutai is composed of ancient crystalline rocks, with a deeper cut in the north and five towering peaks that are as flat as a platform, so it is called Mount Wutai: Wanghai Mountain in the east, Guayue Peak in the west, Jinxiu Peak in the south, Yedou Peak in the north, and Cuiyan Peak in the middle. The area outside the five peaks is called Taiwai, and the area inside the five peaks is called Tainei, with Taihuai Town as the center. Wutai has a circumference of about 250 kilometers and a total area of ??2,837 square kilometers. Among the five, Beitai is the highest. The top of Beitai is 3,058 meters above sea level and is known as the roof of North China.

Zhongshan has a cold climate, the top of the platform is covered with ice and snow all year round, and the weather is cool in midsummer, so it is also called Qingliang Mountain and is a refuge. The natural vegetation of Wutai Mountain is mainly grassland, consisting of meadows, grasslands and shrubs, which are excellent summer pastures. Mount Wutai is one of the earliest Buddhist temple buildings in China. There are currently 47 temples in and around Taiwan. Among them, Bei Temple and Nan Zen Temple are the two earliest existing wooden structures in China. Xiantong Temple (Lingjiu Temple), Tayuan Temple, Bodhisattva Temple, Shuxiang Temple, and Luoqi Temple are listed as the five major Zen places in Mount Wutai. Huai Town, where temples are concentrated, is the center of Buddhist activities and economic life in Mount Wutai. Mount Wutai is the only Buddhist ashram in China where Chinese Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism coexist.

Every summer, pilgrims from home and abroad come to visit, burn incense and worship Buddha. Every June, a grand mule and horse fair is held for material exchange, theatrical performances and summer vacation activities. There are more than 50 famous people everywhere in Wutai Mountain. Among them, when writing on a cliff, after wetting it with water and wiping it carefully with a handkerchief, the surface of the cliff will show handwriting similar to seal script, with dry water and hidden characters. Someone once removed the stone layer of the epidermis, but the result was that the words on the lower layer could still be erased. Words have levels, and each word is different.

It is reported that the couplets of the three treasures of heaven, sun, moon and stars, the three treasures of earth, fire, water and wind, and the three treasures of man have been found.
