Dongfanghong-1 satellite is the first artificial earth satellite launched by China. It was developed by China Academy of Space Technology, with Qian Xuesen as the first president, and was launched at 2 1970 at 0: 35 on April 24th. The successful launch of the satellite marks that China has become the fifth country in the world to launch a domestic satellite with a homemade rocket after the Soviet Union, the United States, France and Japan.

The designed working life of the satellite is 20 days. In May 1970, the satellite stopped transmitting signals and lost contact with the ground. Because the perigee of Dongfanghong-1 satellite is high, Dongfanghong-1 satellite is still in orbit.
