Guangzhou-Zhuhai light rail is one of the main axes of the rail transit network in the Pearl River Delta. June 65438+February 18, 2005 officially started. The total length of the project is143km, of which the main line from Guangzhou to Zhuhai is117km, and the branch line from Xiaolan to Jiangmen is about 26km long. The main line starts from Guangzhou New Guangzhou Station in the north, and the branch line leads from Xiaolan Town, Zhongshan City, crosses Xijiang River, passes through the ancient town of Zhongshan City and the outer sea of Jiangmen City, and reaches Xinhui District. It is reported that after the completion of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai light rail, it takes more than 10 minutes to get to Zhongshan, more than 30 minutes to get to Zhuhai and Guangzhou, and less than 1 hour to get to Shenzhen. Jiangmen will be integrated into the "Pearl River Delta 1 hour city circle."

Guangzhou-Zhuhai Light Rail starts from the planned Panyu New Railway Station in Guangzhou and passes through Panyu, Shunde, Zhongshan, Zhuhai and other industrial towns along the way. Economists believe that the completion of Guangzhou-Zhuhai light rail will be beneficial to the integration and utilization of resources between the Pearl River Delta region, enhance the supporting capacity between cities, improve the economic quality, save costs, and promote the industrial upgrading and transformation of the whole region. After the completion of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity railway, it will also improve the investment environment of many cities along the Pearl River Delta and in the west wing.

From the perspective of long-term planning, the Pearl River Delta intercity rapid rail network has an "A"-shaped main skeleton, with Guangzhou as the core, consisting of two main shafts of Guangzhou-Shenzhen and Guangzhou-Zhuhai and the connecting line from Xiaolan to Humen, with a total length of about 600 kilometers.

This intercity transportation network will strengthen Guangzhou's position as a central city and enhance its radiation to the Pearl River Delta region. With the construction of intercity transportation, the whole Pearl River Delta will take Guangzhou as the core and form a metropolis group.

According to reports, the Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity light rail express will build four tunnels, namely Ninggang, Nangong Village, Nanyang Mountain and Fenghuangshan, with a total length of 4 174 meters, accounting for 3.57% of the total length of the main line, all located in the main line from Guangzhou to Zhuhai.

According to the technical personnel of the project department, the four tunnels are all designed and constructed as double-line tunnels, among which the Phoenix Mountain Tunnel in Zhuhai is the longest tunnel, with a total length of 3,226 meters, which is longer than the sum of the other three tunnels. Fenghuangshan Tunnel is not only the first starting point of Guangzhou-Zhuhai light rail line, but also one of the key projects of this project, so the progress and quality of the project have attracted much attention.

The tunnel runs through Phoenix Mountain in Zhuhai from east to west, with the entrance behind Zhuhai College of Beijing Normal University and the exit at Zhuhai Botanical Garden. At present, the project has been completed about 800 meters.
