What is somatosensory temperature?

What is somatosensory temperature? Refers to the temperature of the air that the human body feels, which can be different from the actual environment temperature.

Definition of somatosensory temperature

This is because other climate-related conditions affect the thermal convection between air and human body, which makes people feel different from the actual temperature, so it is also called apparent temperature.

Overview of somatosensory temperature

Somatosensory temperature is affected by wind, humidity, sunshine and clothes color. If the somatosensory temperature is higher than the air temperature, it shows that all the above factors have played a role in keeping warm, and vice versa. The temperature in the weather forecast only represents the air temperature, and cannot fully express the human body's feelings about the environment, but the temperature can be used as a parameter of the human body's feelings about the temperature, which is the difference between the air temperature and the somatosensory temperature. Under the same temperature conditions, people will have different cold and warm feelings because of different air humidity, wind speed, dress color, sunshine and even mood. For example, when the temperature is 30℃, the air relative humidity is about 40%-50%, and the average wind speed is above 3m/s, people will not feel very hot. However, under the same temperature conditions, if the relative humidity increases above 80% and the wind speed is very low, people will feel sultry and uncomfortable, and even the weak will suffer from heatstroke.

Somatosensory temperature principle

The heat absorption of air will be affected by relative humidity and its density; Wind speed will affect the air composition in contact with human body surface. When the wind speed increases, the air that comes into contact with the human body will increase, so the heat it takes away or brings will also increase accordingly. This phenomenon is called "wind chill index". Therefore, in the weather report, the influence of these two variables will be calculated into the "extreme heat index". Generally speaking, when the air density and humidity increase, the thermal index will increase.

Somatosensory temperature grading

In winter and summer, the human body's feeling of temperature is different, mainly due to the different habits of the human body's usual environment and the different effects of air humidity.

winter

Very cold, very uncomfortable

Cold, very uncomfortable 4 ~ 8℃ (yellow)

Cool and uncomfortable 8 ~ 13℃ (blue)

Cool and comfortable 13 ~ 18℃

Comfortable, the most acceptable is 18 ~ 23℃

Warm, most acceptable 23 ~ 29℃

Warm, uncomfortable 29 ~ 35℃ (blue)

summer

It's very cold (people will die), 13 ~ 18℃ can't stand it.

Cold (will get sick), wear thick clothes or get into the quilt, barely acceptable 18 ~ 20℃

It's a little cold. It is most acceptable to add some clothes at 20 ~ 25℃

Cool, most comfortable 25-27℃

Hot, uncomfortable 27 ~ 30℃

The weather is very hot, and air conditioning or fans are needed at 30 ~ 33℃

Overheating requires a shower at 33 ~ 35℃

It's too hot, so you need to take a shower frequently. The temperature is 35 ~ 37℃.

Extremely hot, people will die above 39℃

These are not absolute, but also depends on the actual situation, sunshine time and so on.
