What is the situation of heel pain?

Mainly because of ligament inflammation, or standing for a long time, wearing inappropriate shoes, heel spur, rheumatism, cold weather and so on.

The main causes of heel pain are:

1. Plantar aponeurosis: This is the most common cause of heel pain, which is caused by long-term trauma and strain.

2. Achilles tendinitis: It is because the patient suddenly increases the intensity and frequency of exercise, resulting in an increase in the pressure on the achilles tendon, and then there will be symptoms of heel pain.

3. Osteochondritis of calcaneus: Osteochondritis of calcaneus is common in teenagers. It is a symptom caused by the tendon pulling on the unhealed epiphysis during development, which will lead to heel pain, and the pain is below the attachment point of achilles tendon.

Extended data

The back of the human foot is located below the ankle joint and behind the arch of the foot, often called heel, commonly known as ankle. Anatomically speaking, ankle (or ankle joint) is the joint between human foot and leg, which consists of 7 tarsal bones plus metatarsal bones of foot and bones of calf.

Most heel pain is caused by ligament inflammation. The human heel consists of 33 joints and more than 100 tendons and ligaments. The ligament of the sole of the foot is closely connected with the bottom of calcaneus. When walking, great traction is concentrated in a narrow area on the ligament below the calcaneus. Repeated traction friction can easily lead to inflammation of the joints between ligaments and bones, causing pain. At the same time, weight is also related to heel pain. Generally speaking, the fatter people are, the more likely they are to suffer from heel pain.

Plantar aponeurosis is a plantar tendon tissue that can maintain normal arch, cushion vibration and strengthen bounce. Long-term walking and overload will cause plantar aponeurosis strain, leading to local aseptic inflammation and pain symptoms.

More common in elderly patients. When heel pain occurs, bone spurs of different sizes can be found at calcaneal tubercle after X-ray. But clinically, it is found that bone spur is not the direct cause of pain, but the protruding bone spur is more likely to cause local tissue to be pulled by friction and produce aseptic inflammation. The degree of heel pain is related to the severity of local inflammatory reaction, but not directly related to the size of spur.
