Northwest Hubei belongs to the middle reaches of the Han River, which runs through the whole territory.

Northwest Hubei has been known as the thoroughfare of four provinces since ancient times. Since the Neolithic Age, it has been an area where civilizations of the Yellow River Basin and the Yangtze River Basin meet. Yangshao culture extends to the south and northwest of Hubei. The late Qujialing culture extended to the north and southwest of Henan. Longshan culture in late Henan extended to northwest Hubei. This area has always been the frontier of fierce cultural confrontation between North and South.

2. Northeast Hubei: the general name of northeast Hubei, which refers to Macheng City and counties such as Hong 'an, Luotian and Yingshan on the southern slope of Dabie Mountain.

Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is the only minority autonomous prefecture in Hubei Province, and it is also the only region in Hubei Province that enjoys the national policy of developing the western region.

The whole state governs Enshi, Lichuan, Badong, Jianshi, Xuanen, Xianfeng, Hefeng and laifeng county, with a population of 3.8 million and an area of 24,000 square kilometers, of which ethnic minorities account for 52.6%. The central city of southwest Hubei is known as "Selenium Capital of the World".

4. Southeast Hubei: Southeast Hubei is the southeast of Hubei Province, including five municipal districts in Hubei Province, such as Ezhou, Huangshi, Xianning, southern Huanggang and southern Wuhan. Southeast Hubei is a geographical and cultural concept, belonging to south-central China, mainly distributed in the south bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River (only Huanggang City is located in the north bank of the Yangtze River).
