Will it be cold in the second half of 2022?

It may be cold in the second half of 2022, and the extreme high temperature in the summer of 2022 is really unbearable, but the winter in the second half of 2022 may be even more difficult. Due to global warming, extremely cold weather conditions in winter are more likely to occur.

The winter in the second half of 2022 experienced a rare triple La Nina phenomenon. La Nina phenomenon refers to the large-scale cooling of the sea surface temperature in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean, coupled with the changes of tropical atmospheric circulation, namely wind, pressure and rainfall. It usually has the opposite effect on weather and climate as El Ni? o, which is the warm stage of the so-called El Ni? o Southern Oscillation (ENSO).

According to the prediction of the World Meteorological Organization, this protracted La Nina phenomenon is likely to last at least until the end of this year, becoming the first "triple La Nina" phenomenon in this century, with a time span of three consecutive northern hemisphere winters (southern hemisphere summers). This is the first consecutive triple La Nina phenomenon since 1950. This La Nina began in August 2020.

With the strengthening of the trade winds from mid-July to mid-August, 2022, La Nina phenomenon in the tropical Pacific Ocean was strengthened, which affected the temperature and precipitation patterns and aggravated droughts and floods in different parts of the world.

However, all natural climate events are now taking place under the background of man-made climate change, which is increasing global temperature, intensifying extreme weather and climate, and affecting seasonal rainfall and temperature patterns. La Nina events for three consecutive years are very special and rare. Its cooling effect temporarily slows down the global temperature rise, but it will not stop or reverse the long-term warming trend.
