Investigation report on the relationship between phenology and weather

Birds and weather

After long-term phenological observation, birds are very sensitive to weather changes.

Sparrows, known as "barometer", always jump from east to west on sunny mornings and keep singing, which indicates that the weather will continue to be fine. If the sparrow cowers and hides under the eaves and makes a "cheep-cheep-cheep" cry, it indicates that rainy weather is coming.

"Swallows fly low, prepare hemp fiber quickly." Swallows are good at catching flying insects. The low flying of swallows indicates that it is going to rain. Because the air humidity is high before the rain, the insect's film-like wings get heavier when wet, so they can't fly high and can only hover at low altitude. Swallows fly low in order to prey on these insects that can't fly high, so that they can have a full meal before it rains.

"The crow croaked and the rain came." Crows make hoarse cries on sunny days, which indicates that there will be rainy weather; If it cries in rainy days, it means that rainy days will continue. If the crow stops on a tall branch after taking a bath in the river, it indicates that there will be a strong wind; If you stop on a lower branch, it means that it will rain. If the crow makes a hoarse cry when flying at high altitude, it indicates that it will rain or wind; If you make a monotonous cry when flying at low altitude, it means the weather is fine.

The oriole sings like a flute, indicating fine weather; If an oriole barks like a cat, it indicates that rainy weather is coming.

Thrushcross jumps around on the branches and keeps singing, which is a sign of sunny days; But if the thrush lives in seclusion, secretly moves or disappears, it will rain continuously.

"Ducks dive fast and the weather will get worse." Ducks are busy foraging on the water, which indicates that heavy rain is coming.

If migratory birds and geese fly south in early autumn, it means that winter in the north is cold early; Flying late, it will get cold if it is late. In spring, geese leave early and return late, which is a precursor to the warmer and warmer local weather. If we don't see geese flying south, it will be a warm winter.
