How severe is the cold wave of Siberian overlord?

In recent years, while many places in the country have experienced a strong sense of "freezing", the news that "the cold wave of the century" will attack China has also been constantly spread.

How big is the impact of this cold wave? Will it really be a "century cold wave"?

The cold wave "spread" and most areas "were not spared"

Just half a month ago, North China was worried that there was no cold air to "disperse" the smog. At present, a powerful cold wave will not only make the smog "disappear without a trace", but also let the people realize the true meaning of "La Qibala, frozen chin".

"At present, there is a large-scale vortex in Siberia, where cold air keeps gathering and accumulating. The northerly airflow on its west side brings some cold air to the south from time to time, which is also the reason for the recent cold in the north. " Li Yong, a senior engineer at the Central Meteorological Observatory, said.

Many meteorologists believe that the "culprit" of the polar vortex leaving the Arctic region south may be a powerful cyclone. Under normal circumstances, the Arctic vortex will not leave the North Pole easily. However, at the end of 65438+February last year, a strong atmospheric cyclone storm in Iceland brought heat from the North Atlantic to the Arctic region, which caused the Arctic temperature, which was usually around MINUS 30 degrees Celsius, to suddenly rise above 0 degrees Celsius, which was called the "century warm current" of the Arctic. Under the "crowding out" of this cyclone storm, the Arctic vortex was "forced" to leave the polar region and carry cold air all the way south.

The Arctic vortex is like a "sweeping monk", which usually lives in seclusion, but once it is shot, its power is endless. Zhang Tao, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said that before the cold wave broke out, some cold air had invaded south in advance, but this time it will be the "main body" of cold air with a wide range of influence. Except Xinjiang and the northeast corner of the northeast, most parts of China are "not spared".

The central and eastern regions ushered in the "quick freezing" mode, and heavy snow fell south of the Yangtze River.

The cold wave started from Siberia and "attacked" China, with the northeast region bearing the brunt. In these two days, the lowest temperature in the Genhe area of Inner Mongolia has exceeded MINUS 40 degrees Celsius, which is a veritable "ice bank". From 2 1, the central and eastern regions will also usher in the "quick freezing mode" from north to south.

The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that the temperature in the eastern part of northwest China, Inner Mongolia, North China, the southern part of Northeast China, Huanghuai, Jianghuai, Jianghan, Jiangnan, South China and the eastern part of Southwest China will drop by 6-8 degrees Celsius from February to 25, and the local temperature drop in the northern part of North China, the northeastern part of Jiangnan, and the eastern and southern parts of Yunnan will reach 10 to/kloc-0.

For the southern region where there is no heating for the time being, this cold wave is more "lethal". Take the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River as an example, the minimum temperature will drop to about-10 degrees Celsius, and even Guangdong and Guangxi in South China will drop to about 0 degrees Celsius. Most of the central and eastern regions will hit a new low since winter, and the lowest temperature in southern Anhui and central Zhejiang may be close to 65438+1October, which is "the coldest in history".

This cold wave process will not only greatly reduce the temperature, but also have a large-scale rain and snow weather process in the southern region. From the evening of 20th, under the influence of cold air "vanguard troops", precipitation began to appear in the south. With the 2 1 strong cold air "going south in a big way", it will turn from rain to snow in many places.

According to the forecast of the Central Meteorological Observatory, there will be a rain and snow weather process in Jianghuai and its south area from October 20 to 23 at 65438+/KLOC-0. There will be small to moderate rain and heavy snow in Hubei, southern Anhui, southern Jiangsu, Shanghai, north-central Zhejiang, north-central Jiangxi and north-central Hunan, and there will be heavy snow in the north-central Zhejiang. The main period of rain and snow is from the night of 20th to the day of 22nd, and the snow depth can reach 5 to 10. Among them, freezing rain will occur in parts of Hunan and Guizhou from 2/kloc-0 to 22.

Cold wave transit "three-day tour": the freezing rain and snow disaster in 2008 will not repeat itself.

The large-scale freezing rain and snow in the south always reminds people of the disaster in 2008. How does this freezing process compare with 2008?

"The low-temperature rain and snow process in the south will not be as serious as in 2008." Zhang Tao said that although the intensity of the cold wave was high, the transit speed was fast. For most areas, the impact time is about 3 days, and there will be no persistent low-temperature rain, snow and freezing disaster.

Judging from the transit time of cold air, the cold air front affected most parts of Inner Mongolia on the night of 2 1 day. On the night of the 22nd, the area north of the Yellow River cooled down. On the 23rd, cold air accelerated southward. By the night of the 24th, the cold air front will enter the South China Sea. According to meteorologists, the coldest time in the north is from 23rd to 24th, and the coldest time in the south is from 24th to 25th.

In fact, due to the influence of the early cold air, the temperature in some areas has been very low, and this cold wave process can be regarded as "worse". "Because the cooling rate is not very large, the Central Meteorological Observatory may only issue a blue warning for this cold wave." Zhang Tao said.

The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that the temperature in the central and eastern regions will gradually rise from the 26th. Around the 27 th, there will be moderate to heavy rain and local heavy rain in South China and Jiangnan, but there is no obvious freezing weather; Around the 29th, the temperature in the south will return to normal level.

Experts remind all localities to prepare for the cold wave and ensure people's livelihood.
