Every year after March, the warm and humid air flow from the ocean begins to become stronger. At the same time, the cold air that has dominated our country for the whole winter is no longer strong.

A spring rain followed by a warm one. After several "battles" between cold and warm air, the spring rain moved all the way north, spreading the spirit of spring across the land of China.

If you could use one word to describe spring rain, what would you use? Maybe a thousand people will have a thousand answers in their minds.

With this question in mind, @中国 Weather studied the big data of my country’s spring (March to May) rainfall in the 30 years from 1981 to 2010, and found that spring rain in various places has “different personalities.”

The "fickle" Spring Rain in the South of the Yangtze River

When it comes to the Spring Rain in the South of the Yangtze River, I believe that many people have this picture in their minds - light rain of apricot blossoms and misty rain in the South of the Yangtze River. But after carefully studying the meteorological data, we found that the spring rain in Jiangnan is not only "gentle".

From March to April every year, the cold air gradually shows its weakness and is unable to cross the Nanling and Wuyi Mountains. As a result, the Jiangnan region has become the main battlefield where it "battles" with warm and humid air currents. Constant rain or lightning and thunder are also common. During this period, not only did the average monthly rainfall in many places in the south of the Yangtze River exceed that of southern China, but the number of thunderstorm days also prevailed.

The spring rain in the south of the Yangtze River is really scary once it becomes powerful.

The spring rain in South China is a bit "violent"

In early March every year, the rain in South China begins to increase and enters the spring rain period. There will be an explosive growth from April to May. In May, Guangzhou's monthly average rainfall was more than three times that of March; the average number of days with heavy rain or above was 6.9, while in March, this number was only 0.7.

The rainfall in South China from April to May is the product of the outbreak of the southwest monsoon and the southeast monsoon. The rainfall is heavy, strong, and strong convection occurs frequently, which is a bit "violent". This is the beginning of the pre-flood season in South China that makes people "change their faces".

The gentlest spring rain is in the southwest

The spring rain in the southwest has many rainy days, but the total rainfall is not large. More than 70% of all rainfall days in spring in Chongqing and Guiyang are light rain, and the number of light rain days in Chengdu accounts for nearly 90%, which is much higher than that in Jiangnan and South China. The drizzle falls, moistening things silently.

It turns out that the gentlest spring rain is here.

The spring rain in the north "comes out after thousands of calls"

"The spring rain is as precious as oil, and it flows all over the streets." A poem casually uttered by Xie Jin in the Ming Dynasty when he was a child , has become the best footnote of the spring rain in the north.

Why is spring rain in the north so precious? The main reason is - few. Judging from the illustrations, it is clear at a glance that there is a huge gap in spring rainfall between the north and the south.

Spring in the north is windy and dusty, and the climate is very dry. At the same time, overwintering crops begin to turn green, and spring plowing and sowing begin one after another. Every person, every inch of land, and every crop is longing for the nourishment of spring rain.

After surviving a long and bleak winter, spring rain in the north is no longer just a weather phenomenon, it is also an emotional sustenance and a ritual that starts a new cycle of four seasons.

After a spring rain, green buds sprouted from the grass, buds on the branches began to sprout, the air became moist, and the mountains changed colors. It is like the messenger of spring, coming with surprises and hope. How can such spring rain not be precious?

The "smart" spring snow in the north

Spring is suddenly warm and then cold. When the temperature drops to a certain level, the spring rain will turn into spring snow, falling to the world.

In the northeast and northwest regions with higher latitudes, the probability of seeing spring snow will be greater.

Winter snow is common, but spring snow is rare. Compared with winter snow, spring snow is a little more colorful. "White snow is too late for spring, so flying flowers fly through the trees in the garden." In the ancient capital of Chang'an more than 1,200 years ago, Han Yu used these two lines to transform the snowflakes in early spring into a spring scenery, and also gave the spring snow more spirituality.

When the ice and snow in the northernmost Heilongjiang melt away and spring fills the earth, the spring rain of this season has completed its mission.

No matter how cold the winter is, the spring rain will eventually come with spring. This is the power of spring rain.
