How to disinfect the room of a person diagnosed positive for COVID-19

Disinfection methods for rooms where positive patients have stayed:

(1) Home disinfection of positive patients before transfer.

Living in separate rooms: Before being transferred to a designated makeshift hospital, positive infected persons should live in separate rooms with other family members as much as possible. The bathroom is separate. And please note that the whole family must wear masks. Disinfection must be done well.

Bathroom disinfection: If it is not possible to use separate bathrooms, positive persons must be disinfected after each use of the toilet. When flushing the toilet, cover it. After flushing, throw in a chlorine dioxide disinfectant tablet and close the toilet seat. At the same time, place chlorine dioxide air purification gel for sustainable disinfection in the bathroom. Or use an open container to hold an appropriate amount of water, and then put 2 chlorine dioxide disinfection tablets to use the gas dispersion of chlorine dioxide to continuously disinfect the air.

Household air disinfection: Households can be equipped with circulating air air disinfection machines suitable for human-machine coexistence for dynamic disinfection; chlorine dioxide spray disinfection can also be used to carry out room-by-room disinfection after the personnel leave and wait for 30 minutes. Open the windows for ventilation and enter the room after there is no smell, twice a day.

Tableware: The tableware of positive patients should be washed first after each use, and then soaked and disinfected in separate containers. It can be soaked and disinfected with 100-250mg/L chlorine dioxide disinfectant. Or use a tableware sterilizing cabinet or boiling to sterilize. (Please follow the instructions for chlorine dioxide disinfectant, soak for 5-10 minutes, take it out, and rinse with clean water. Especially stainless steel tableware is not suitable for long-term soaking to prevent corrosion.)

Napkins, kitchen waste, etc.: Napkins and kitchen waste used by positive patients should be put into special garbage bags. You can wrap 1 chlorine dioxide tablet in a wet paper towel and throw it into the garbage. Inside the bag, tie the garbage bag tightly.

It should be noted that continuously generated garbage such as paper towels, thrown into garbage bags every time, and frequently opened bags may cause the spread of viruses. The simple method is to throw it into a basin with disinfectant after each use. After disinfection, regularly move it into a garbage bag and tie it tightly. The waste will then be moved to designated waste collection sites by community volunteers or dedicated personnel.

Used masks: Masks used by positive patients can be thrown into a basin with disinfectant. After disinfection, take them out and throw them into a garbage bag, tie them tightly and move them to a designated place.

(2) Home disinfection after positive patients are transferred

After positive patients are transferred, in accordance with the relevant requirements of the country and this city’s new coronavirus prevention and control work, it is necessary to promptly conduct a disinfection of the home environment and activity trajectory Take disinfection measures.

Disinfection should be carried out by professionals under the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; if there are no professional disinfectants coming to the home for disinfection, you should pay attention to protection when disinfecting by yourself, and wear isolation gowns, gloves, goggles, shoe covers, etc. Protective equipment and thoroughly disinfect the room.

Tableware: After washing, you can use a tableware sterilizer or boil it for disinfection, or soak it with chlorine dioxide disinfectant (be sure to rinse it with clean water after disinfection).

Object surfaces can be wiped and disinfected, and floors can be mopped and disinfected. Electronic products, frequently used items, keys, mobile phones, mice, various buttons, etc. can be wiped and disinfected with alcohol wipes. Fabrics such as towels can be soaked and disinfected using chemical disinfectants.

Indoor air disinfection: Chlorine dioxide disinfectant can be used, spraying 10~30ml per cubic meter of space at a concentration of 500mg/L for spray disinfection. Open the window for ventilation after 30-60 minutes. Pay attention to the situation when there is no one around when disinfecting, and you can take turns in different rooms. After disinfection, be sure to open windows for ventilation. Disinfection lasts for 1 week.

Bathroom and floor drain: Bathroom walls, sinks and other surfaces can be mopped and wiped with chlorine dioxide or chlorine-containing disinfectants for disinfection. The air in the bathroom can be sprayed and disinfected with chlorine dioxide disinfectant.

Pour 500ml of prepared disinfectant into the floor drain twice a day for 3 days. Be sure to seal the floor drain after each disinfection. You can use a plastic bag to hold water and cover it to seal the floor drain.
