Interview NBA players?

Reporter Wang Meng reported on September 23rd that it was wise for Peak to choose Battier as the image spokesperson. In the NBA, Battier seems to be an anomaly. He has almost no shortcomings, and everyone's comments on him are very similar: a good player and a good man.

Chris Kennedy, the sports director of Duke University, said after meeting Battier for the first time, "I just met a very good kid. One day, he can become the president of this country. "

Yes, Battier wakes up from his sleep with a smile every day and stands on the court in high spirits every night when there is a game. His every behavior conforms to the social code of conduct, as if he were the most representative of backbone in American society. Battier has almost no bad habits of NBA players and is an absolutely qualified player model.

On the day before leaving Beijing, in the Grand Hyatt Hotel where he stayed, Battier accepted an interview with our reporter and asked him to tell our readers what kind of person he really was.

"I enjoy the challenge every night."

Basketball Pioneer: We have been following your news since you moved to the Rockets. According to what I have seen and heard, you are very special in the world of NBA. We are curious, what kind of person and player are you, and how would you describe yourself?

Battier: I feel very happy and lucky to take basketball as my lifelong career. God gave me talent and opportunity. But in my opinion, this is not unique or absolute. Basketball is not everything to me. I always remember what my parents taught me when I was a child: the most important thing is how you treat people around you, and treat others as you want them to treat you. What I insist on every day is not how to be a successful player, but what I remember and believe since I was a child.

Your attitude and your basketball philosophy look so different. What is the reason?

I always meet good coaches. I have the best parents in the world. They taught me how to live and enjoy my work. They told me never to value my role too much, but to work hard. I grew up under this kind of education, and the reason why I enjoy life so much is basically because of this.

Which coaches? Can you tell us their names in detail?

Too many. My first hard ball was my father, Eddie. Since I was four or five years old, he has told me how to be an excellent team member. Then I started playing basketball. My high school and college coach, namely "Coach K" (Shu Szaszky), has taught me a lot, and almost all my life is related to them.

Let's talk about the NBA. This is your occupation. In our opinion, this is a great job, living in the spotlight. You live in it. What do you think of this job?

As a member of the NBA, I wake up smiling every day. I think this job is really good, but not because of how dazzling it is. The NBA is not just what you see on TV. Television won't let fans know how many ice packs you have to tie after each game, won't see your wounds, and won't know how painful it will be to travel long distances and what it will be like to fail. Basketball is my childhood dream. Now my dream has come true.

What do you like best about the NBA?

What I enjoy most is challenges, different challenges every day. I will defend James, Anthony, Garnett, Yao Ming, Brand … I will defend whoever the coach tells me to. Every night's challenge is very interesting to me.

What do you want most from the NBA?

I hope to win and win the championship. I never pay attention to how many points I scored and what my data is. As long as my team can win, nothing matters. I can only get one point, or I can spell 30 points.

I have interviewed many NBA players, even those who have never played an NBA game, and they will say that the championship is my dream. Why, is it really that important to be a champion?

Yes, because champion means forever. When I was at Duke University, we won the championship. Because of this, people there will always remember me. No one will remember a particular scene, no one will remember how many points you scored and how many rebounds you grabbed. People will only remember whether the victory belongs to you. When people ask about your game, they just ask, did you win?

Take Memphis as an example. Grizzly bear's grades are not good either, but the fans there still miss you very much and can't bear to part with you. Why?

They will remember me because I am a part of the change of grizzly bear. When the Grizzlies selected me, their record was the worst in the league, but during the five years in Memphis, we got better and better, and entered the playoffs for three consecutive years. Because of this change, people remember me.

"I can play anywhere."

Let's talk about rockets. You must have talked to JVG. Where does he want you to play in the new season?

One of the reasons why they traded me is because I can give the coach more choices on the court. The coach told me that it would make me appear in many positions. In the NBA, the current trend is to use a lot of small players, and the speed is getting faster and faster. A fast power forward will be more useful than a strong power forward. I can play power forward and small forward, and I can also defend power forward. In the past few years, no one in the Rockets lineup has been able to offer such a choice to the coach. Now that I'm here, I told the coach that I can play in any position, and everything depends on his requirements. As for the specific location, it depends on who the opponent is.

Where do you think the Rockets, you, McGrady and Yao Ming will be in the West?

The opponents in the west are really too strong. In the west, there is no room for you to relax. Maybe in the east, you still have time to catch your breath, but in the west, you have to stick to it. People didn't realize that last season's rockets were already very good. Before McGrady was injured, their record was 2 1 win and 10 loss. As long as they are healthy, they will enter the playoffs. This year, we are younger, and we expect better results.

Do you have any specific goals?

I never make such a promise because no one knows what will happen or who will get hurt. My goal is to win every night. Hoping to enter the playoffs. I don't know the real taste of the playoffs. I hope I can go further with Yao Ming and McGrady in the playoffs.

You said that people need to constantly prove themselves. Now that you have been in the league for five years, everyone says you are a good man and every coach thinks you are an excellent player. Now, what do you want to prove?

I want to prove that I am making progress every day. Once you stop making progress, others will certainly surpass you, and then you will fail. Therefore, I work hard every day, and the victory will never be out of date and will never stop. Improvement and progress should also be carried on all the time.

When you achieve something, you will say to yourself, "Well, I am satisfied now. There is nothing to prove. I can leave. "

When I can't compete anymore, I will leave. There will be two situations, one is that you decide to leave, and the other is that others think it's time for you to leave. I hope I can decide when to leave according to my own wishes, and I hope it will be a long time. At that time, I wish I could tell myself that I had tried my best and done everything I could. Even if I don't win the championship, it doesn't matter At that time, I will leave happily.

Not many people think the same as you.

Everyone has different ideas and opinions. Everyone appears in the NBA for their own reasons, and there is no right or wrong. It's just that everyone is here for different purposes. Some people are motivated by money, others are motivated by victory, and everyone's role is different.

"I want to go back and decorate my new home with my wife."

Great changes have taken place in your life since you came to Houston. New contract, new home, new teammates, new shoes. Is this a turning point in your life?

Well, I feel very excited! When you stay in one place for five years, you will make yourself comfortable. The situation is a bit like forcing you to change. This is a new challenge and makes me feel excited. I hope to bring new changes to this new place and change myself.

Do you have any expectations? I mean, what kind of life do you want to live in this new city?

I'm so excited! Memphis is good, but Houston is bigger, and there are more cultural blends here. My wife and I are very excited to try different restaurants. We are also looking forward to making new friends.

I know business is business, but you already have everything in Memphis, and you are almost a part of the city. But now you must put all this behind you and come to a new city. Do you think this is a cruel thing?

The hardest thing is to re-establish your circle and interpersonal relationship. I miss my friends in Memphis already. But I have new people to meet here, and I hope to make more friends. I told my friends in Memphis that we were not saying goodbye, but saying good night to each other. Soon we will meet again, I will go there to compete, and we will call each other. I'm excited, and of course I'm a little scared.

We watched the Rockets' preseason schedule. The first game was against the Grizzlies. How do you feel after knowing this?

I'll find it strange. When I wear a red jersey, it will be special, because I have never worn red in my life. And when I walk on the court, my mood will be very complicated. I will say to my old friend, "Hey, I'm glad to see you again. I will beat you, and you must try your best to beat me. " I think that would be interesting.

How are you getting along in Houston now? I know you like CheesecakeFactory (a cheese biscuit shop in Memphis that Battier likes). Did you find it in Houston?

Sure, the one in galleria. My time there is still short, and life in Houston will be interesting.

Where is your new home in Houston?

Near Rice University, we just bought a new home.

I know there are many good restaurants, and many college girls run near Rice University. How is your new house? It's okay, it's not very big. We have two dogs, so we must prepare a beautiful yard for them. As for the restaurants nearby, I'm not sure. I've only been here for three days, and I'm sure I'm not as familiar with you.

Just three days?

Yes, I just arrived in Beijing and soon came. There are still many unopened boxes at home now. I am eager to go back and decorate our new home with my wife.

"I like the bad boy in the piston."

In my opinion, you are somewhat similar to grant hill, and people are happy to promote you two to model players. Is it necessary to be a role model for NBA players living in the spotlight?

I think it's only my responsibility. I will tell them how to treat life, how to be grateful and work hard, and how to treat others.

Who was your childhood hero?

I like the bad boy of Pistons.

So you hate Jordan?

I respect Jordan, but I don't like him very much

If you don't play basketball, what career do you want to pursue?

I like helping and educating children, and I hope to be a teacher or coach one day. But of course I can't teach the NBA. I can't handle a player like me. (Laughter)

I thought you said you wanted to be the general manager of the team in the future.

I used to think so, but I don't think I knew much about basketball at that time. Now my mind has changed.

An article said that when you were three years old, you asked your mother if you would become the president of the United States one day. Is this happening?

I should have been watching TV then. Of course I don't know what a president is. So I asked my mom. Actually, I don't remember, but she remembers very well. I don't know what I was thinking.
