What is the significance and function of HDR in mobile phone photography?
Sometimes we try, but we find it seems useless. Maybe you don't need it. In fact, this function is a necessary function for taking pictures when traveling.
Next, Bian Xiao will popularize the HDR in this mobile phone photo. What does this mean? What's the role?
What is HDR function?
HDR is the abbreviation of English high dynamic range. These three English words mean "high dynamic range". So what is high dynamic range? Let me give you an example to make you understand.
When we take pictures with a certain light aberration ratio, if we take care of the highlights, the details of the dark parts will be lost; If we deal with the dark parts, there will be overexposure in the high-light areas.
At this time, we can solve this problem by turning on the HDR function of the mobile phone camera. The HDR function will take multiple photos with different exposures, handle all bright and dark photos, and take all details.
Exposed photos are taken in the dark-with rich details, normally exposed photos are taken in the middle tone, and underexposed photos are taken in the light-with rich details, and finally a normally exposed photo is synthesized.
HDR function can improve image quality.
If shooting in dark light, turning on HDR function can effectively improve the picture quality. Because the weakest part of taking photos with a mobile phone is the "dark light", you can try to enlarge the photos taken in the dark environment, and then you will find that the photos are very smeared.
Although this kind of smearing can make the noise of the photo less obvious to a certain extent, it will make the details of the photo lost.
The HDR function is to combine multiple photos with different exposures into a photo with rich details and accurate exposure. When different photos are exposed, the details of each area in the photos will naturally be different. Therefore, combining multiple photos with different exposures can not only get accurate exposure, but also improve the details of the photos.
By zooming in, it can be found that photos taken without HDR function have tailing phenomenon after zooming in; After turning on the HDR function, the details of the photos are richer and the colors have changed.
HDR function is suitable for shooting scenes.
HDR function is not suitable for shooting all scenes. Only suitable for shooting some scenes. Here are several scenarios suitable for turning on HDR.
Taking landscape photos: When taking landscape photos with a mobile phone, the camera of the mobile phone can't handle this contrast well at present, because there is a certain contrast between the sky and the ground. At this point, you need to turn on HDR shooting. It not only preserves the details of the sky, but also makes the ground look too dark.
Shooting portraits in the sun: Using mobile phones to shoot portraits in the sun often produces shadows, glare and some discordant effects. HDR function can eliminate these disharmonious factors and make people look better.
Low-light backlight scene: If the background is bright, the photos taken will be very dark. The HDR function can brighten the dark parts without weakening the light of the photo. In addition, turning on the HDR function can shoot mobile phone photography with perfect details under backlight.
HDR mode (right) in the backlight makes everything in the room perfectly displayed.
Scenes where HDR function is not applicable
Above, we discussed the scene suitable for HDR. Next, let's briefly talk about scenes that are not suitable for HDR. There are two scenes that are not suitable for HDR because they are typical.
Moving object: If shooting a moving object, turn on the HDR function to shoot, and the HDR function will make the subject in the photo appear ghost.
High contrast photos: some photos with strong contrast, such as color contrast, light and dark contrast, etc. These sharp contrasts formed for various reasons are beautiful in themselves. If you turn on the HDR function to shoot, this contrast will decrease, resulting in a darkened picture.
Turning on HDR will reduce the color contrast.
Well, with that said, I hope everyone's photo-taking technology can be improved, and I hope everyone can explore more hidden functions of mobile phone photo-taking!
