The ancient town in Guangxi is a dream home with a long history

Someone once described Huangyao like this: "The ancient town of Huangyao is like a thousand-year-old poetry collection, forgotten on a secluded bookshelf in the library. When people walk by inadvertently, they open this beautiful chapter. , the simple yet elegant style immediately conquers people’s hearts.”

Huangyao is an ancient town with a history of nearly a thousand years. It was founded in the Song Dynasty, built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and flourished in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Since most of the people in the town have the surnames Huang and Yao, it is named "Huang Yao".

Huangyao Ancient Town was listed as a provincial scenic spot in 1995. It is an ancient town with a history of more than 900 years. It still retains relatively complete Ming and Qing architecture and is known as the "Dream Home". It is known as "Little Guilin" both inside and outside the region. A number of tourism resources such as Zhongdong Kongming Rock, Diao Rock, Feng Cave and Jie Tang Gas Breeding Rock are under planning and development.

It is a typical karst landform with towering peaks, deep caves, surrounded by clear streams and towering ancient trees. The natural landscape has eight major sceneries and twenty-four minor sceneries. It has preserved more than 20 temples, temples, and more than 10 pavilions, most of which were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The famous ones include Wenming Pavilion, Baozhu Temple, Xingyu Temple, Lion Temple, Ancient Stage, Wu Family Ancestral Hall, Guo Family Ancestral Hall, Zuolong Temple, Jianlong Temple, Jianlong Temple, Dailong Bridge, Hulong Bridge, Natural Pavilion, etc.

There are eight streets in the town. Most of the houses maintain the style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the streets are all built with bluestone slabs. The cultural landscape also includes the ink ink of Han Yu and Liu Zongbiao, the memorial hall of the former site of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee of the Communist Party of China, the statue of martyr Qian Xing, the residences of cultural celebrities such as He Xiangning, Gao Shiqi, Qian Jiaju, and many poetry couplets and inscriptions.

But since you have come to Huangyao, the place you must visit is of course the ancient town (ticket ¥58, student ticket ¥30).

Several scenic spots in the town, such as the Dragon Bridge, Sitting and Drinking Tea, and the entrance to the village. There are many nice little scenes in the ancient town, making it a good place for photography enthusiasts. Even if you are not a sex lover, you can slowly appreciate the simplicity, coolness and remoteness of the ancient town. Next to the ancient town, walk along the river to Wenming Pavilion. The road is pastoral and the scenery is good. Especially "Civilization Pavilion" and "Zhoujia Reservoir".

Wenming Pavilion

This is a small temple built on the mountain. It is a place where local villagers worship gods. When you reach Wenming Pavilion and continue climbing, there is a platform where local people pray for rain. Climb up and you can see the river and pastoral farms. There is a lawn under the Wenming Pavilion. Huang Yao's children will definitely encourage you to set off fireworks and barbecue at night. It is also good to watch the stars here.

But after the barbecue, don’t forget to put away the garbage bags and fireworks cartridges you brought, and take away paper towels and other debris (paper towels will not damage the ecology, but it will be a problem if they are thrown all over the grass. Very glaring and unsightly).

Zhoujia Reservoir

It is about three or four kilometers away in the direction of Zhaoping. It costs 1 yuan to take a tricycle, or you can also walk. There are 20 public bamboo rafts in this reservoir, which can be used at will, but safety must be paid attention to. On the way to the reservoir, the pastoral scenery on both sides is very good. The unique yellow mud brick walls of the area, coupled with the vertical and horizontal streets, give it a soft feeling. On the way back, we looked at the ancient town in the distance. Behind the town, there are towering karst peaks, which are simple and beautiful.

But if you are a foodie, then you must love the Dongmen Tower in Huangyao Ancient Town. Huangyao tofu is a major local specialty, including tofu and stuffed tofu. You must try both. There are also fresh oyster mushrooms and glutinous rice mushrooms, and the vegetables are also very fresh and sweet. There are also grass carp and carp in the market. However, there are not many restaurants in Huang Yao, and all the dishes are stir-fry.

In addition, there is a porridge shop opposite the square, which sells chicken, frog, pond lice and other porridge for 10 yuan a pot. It is also open in the evening. There are delicious rice noodles and wontons served on the street every day during the day, and a large bowl costs one yuan. There is a glutinous rice dumpling shop in the market. The glutinous rice balls are big and round. You can buy five or six for one yuan. Huangyao tempeh is very famous and can be used as seasoning (you can buy some seasoning at home).

Huang Yao’s family has endless sweet potatoes, so they dry them in the sun. Every day, there are children simmering sweet potatoes on the streets, roadsides, and at the entrance of the village. In Huangyao, you will definitely eat less sweet potatoes. What is sold in Huangyao market is vegetable garden chicken, which already tastes very good. If you buy it from a farm, it will taste even better. People in Huangyao raise chickens and feed them rice, so they are particularly delicious.

Huangyao people are also very hospitable. From sweet potatoes, porridge, rice noodles, glutinous rice cakes to dinner, from breakfast, lunch to dinner, if you want to try farm rice, it is best to bring them a small gift. (Or buy some fruit). The folk customs here are very simple, and there are relatively few tourists. Now you can experience the local life in person. If you wait until it becomes commercialized, it may not be so comfortable.

So come quickly!
