Bhumibol is the grandson of King Rama V of Thailand and the younger brother of ananta of Rama VIII. He lost his father at the age of two. His name, bhumibol adulyadej, means "the power of the land, unparalleled power". 1933, 6-year-old Bhumibol moved to Lausanne, Switzerland with his mother. 1945, after World War II, his family returned to China and he began to study science at the University of Lausanne. 1on June 9, 946, his brother Rama VIII was shot dead in the palace. When he was young, Prince Bhumibol loved photography, painting and writing, and also composed music for saxophone.
