Light box cloth is a kind of signboard cloth for light boxes, which is composed of two layers of PVC and one layer of high-strength grid cloth. It is divided into two types: internal lighting and external lighting. The main production methods are scraping method, calendering method and sticking method (melting method).

Key points of quality appraisal of lamp box cloth: thickness, tensile strength, ductility, weather resistance, light transmittance, flame retardancy, peeling degree and smoothness, and ink absorption and color reduction if used for inkjet printing.

According to the production process, the lamp box cloth can be divided into three types: knife scraping lamp box cloth, calendering lamp box cloth and pasting lamp box cloth.

Scraper method:

Scraper lamp box cloth technology is that liquid PVC slurry is evenly coated on the front and back sides of the base cloth with several pairs of scrapers, and then completely combined into a whole through drying process, and then cooled and formed. It is characterized by strong impermeability, tensile strength and peeling resistance. Because the scraper method is an integral product, the peeling phenomenon can be eliminated, and the strength of the joint can be greater than the product itself through welding. At present, the width of light box cloth using this technology can reach 5 meters. Due to the complicated manufacturing process and expensive manufacturing equipment, such products are mainly imported in China market, and the price is relatively high. The most representative ones are ULTRALON in Germany, UNIFLEX in South Korea and SIOEN in Belgium.

Calendering method:

Calendering method is to fully mix PVC powder with liquid plasticizer and other raw materials, and then adhere them to the base fabric under the pressure of high-temperature hot rollers. It is characterized by good surface finish and uniform light transmission, and has advantages in indoor lighting cloth. However, due to the limitation of equipment, the width is generally not more than 3 meters. The 645 and 945 lamp box cloths developed by American 3M Company are all produced by this process. In addition, Lexi light box cloth developed by LG is also a representative of this technology.

Paste method:

The bonding method of lamp box cloth is that the PVC film formed in the upper and lower layers is bonded with the light-guiding fiber net in the middle by heating under the pressure of a hot roller, and then cooled and molded. The biggest feature of this process is excellent ink absorption and strong color expression. Therefore, with the rise of large-scale inkjet unemployment, it has also brought infinite vitality to this kind of light box cloth. At present, the market share of this kind of light box cloth in China has exceeded 70%.
