Nantong city is located at 3 1 4 1' 06 "~ 32 42' 44 "north latitude and1201'47" ~154' 33 east longitude. The maximum distance from north to south is 1 14.2 km, and the widest point from east to west is 158.8 km. The city borders the Yellow Sea in the east, the Yangtze River in the south, Yancheng in the north and Taizhou in the west.

Nantong has jurisdiction over three districts (Chongchuan, Gangzha and Tongzhou), 1 county (Rudong), two development zones (Nantong Economic and Technological Development Zone and Nantong Binhai Park) and 1 functional zone (Sutong Science and Technology Industrial Park), and manages four county-level cities (Qidong, Rugao, Haimen and Hai 'an).
