Why are photographers rarely women? Most of them are men.
The film "The Tale of the Clouds" begins with a big shot and tells the scene in Manhattan, new york. Then a group of left and right panning shots tells about Wang Biyun's living environment in his later years, and at the same time shakes the protagonist Wang Biyun into the painting and introduces the theme. At this time, there is a noteworthy detail, which is the oil painting that Wang Biyun is creating. Wang Biyun's original idea of creating this oil painting was to make it into a snowy mountain with a blue tone. When you watch the second half of the film carefully, you will find that when Wang Biyun learned that Chen Qiushui and his wife were killed in an avalanche in Manhattan, the reappearance of this painting became a bloody snow-capped mountain painting with a red tone, which implied the inner shock brought by Chen Qiushui's death. The color change of this oil painting directly reflects Wang Biyun's inner change as a creator. The director skillfully showed Wang Biyun's inner changes through the external changes of this oil painting. Personally, I prefer the expression of this film, which shows the inner psychological activities of the characters through the external changes of things. It feels deep, subtle and not so straightforward. Then, from the beginning, there has been that kind of radical music. As the phone rings, the music stops and the story begins. This drama is mainly the perfect combination of music, sound and pictures, giving people a very comfortable and smooth feeling. As soon as the music stopped, the dialogue between the characters began. The sound at this time is mainly in real life, using sound effects to bring the audience into real life stories. At the beginning of the conversation, the photographer first gave Wang Biyun a shaking shot with a big forward tilt, and then the next shot gave Wang Biyun a close-up of shaking his face horizontally. From a landscape point of view, these two shots are the photographer's way to let the audience know the character step by step. Generally speaking, this scene is the beginning of this film, which tells the story of Wang Biyun in his later years in real life, so the colors are bright orange and warm both indoors and outdoors. Photographers often use sports lenses to introduce new environments to everyone, and at the same time, they are also completing the narrative of the film. Next, in the scene where Wang Biyun's granddaughter appeared in the cemetery, the overall tone was cold, and the costumes of the characters and the colors chosen by the photographer to appear in the picture were relatively plain. The whole tone gives people a feeling of cold and calm. This feeling is also in line with the atmosphere of the cemetery scene. The tone processing of this play has also achieved the effect of depicting the environment and rendering the atmosphere. This scene photography uses a lot of overlapping painting techniques, and the camera moves slowly. I think the photographer wants to control the rhythm at the beginning of the whole film slowly, paving the way for the emotional climax later, and also forming a contrast between the ups and downs of the whole film. Generally speaking, this film adopts the method of film montage, interweaving the realistic part of the story with the narrative memory part. The play began in Taipei in the late 1949' s, and also explained the social background and the living conditions of ordinary people through a downtown lens. What is particularly noteworthy in this scene is that the first shot at the beginning of this scene lasted for three minutes. First of all, this long shot tests the photographer's scheduling of shots, as well as the high requirements in technology and composition, and then the director's scheduling ability for such a big scene, so many roles and actors. For this long shot, I only do the following analysis from the photography aspect: 1. This long lens uses the professional shock absorption equipment of the camera stabilizer. 2. Personally, I think this long shot is not a shot in one go, but a seemingly long shot made up of several shots developed separately through post-special effects. The basis of my analysis is mainly that there is a typical shot from the window to the window, which can not be completed by one shot in real life. 3. The photographer introduced the environment through this long shot, and brought the audience into Wang Biyun's home when he was young, and the story began ... Then the scene in Wang Biyun's home was bright and full of sunshine, because it was the sweet stage when Wang Biyun and Chen Qiushui first met and fell in love. Photography is in line with the youthful love of two young people, and the whole tone is processed into a quite bright warm tone, and the atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant, which is also the most beautiful scene in the whole film. Two people met at the stairs, and several people's faces were close-up, vividly showing the details of their love at first sight. When they turned away, the music began, which was lyrical music, indicating the beginning of love. Due to the limited space, I won't analyze them one by one here. The highlight I want to comment on next is the scene of Chen Qiushui eating at Wang Biyun's house. The overall tone of the scene is blue-gray and cool, which symbolizes the bad news that Chen Qiushui is leaving Wang Biyun's home. Although there are some warm candlelight decorations in the distance, they can only represent a little feeling of home. In this play, the costumes of the characters are mainly gray, black, khaki and light pink, and the plain color of a large area of white tablecloth shows the depressed mood of the characters. This line is also very concise, especially the dentist's line: "A person with good teeth has a good heart." Chen Qiushui later repeated this sentence to Wang Jindi in the Northern War. From this repeated line, Chen Qiushui, who was renamed Xu at that time, reflected his inner thoughts of Wang Biyun. In addition, I especially appreciate an empty shot of photographer Wang Xiaolie in the second part of Xiluo Opera in Chen Qiushui's hometown. The atmosphere at the scene is quite beautiful, especially the faint smoke.
