Overview of Shanyang Town

Shanyang Town is located in the west of Yongping County. It covers an area of ??472 square kilometers and has a population of 44,000 (2006), with 16 ethnic groups including Han, Bai, Hui, Miao and Lisu. It governs 12 administrative villages, Shanyang, Pupeng, Ahaizhai, Yandong, Renshou, Xinglong, Xiaozhai, Yonghe, Jinhe, Songpo, Panlong and Baolong, and 252 villager groups. The town government is located in Shanyang, 20.4 kilometers away from the county seat. Located on the east bank of Lancang River, the valley climate is more obvious. Flowers are especially cultivated with Burmese osmanthus in all seasons. National Highway 320 passes through the border, and there are roads connecting Shanyang to the north and Factory Street to the east. Places of interest include Jinguang Temple Provincial Nature Reserve, Jihong Bridge, a provincial cultural relic protection unit, and Wenbi Pagoda and Fengming Bridge of Xishan Temple, a county-level cultural relic protection unit.
