The Royal Dutch/Shell Group was founded in 1907. It is a multinational oil company group formed by Royal Dutch Petroleum Company and Shell Transport and Trading Co., Ltd.

In 1954, Royal Dutch Petroleum Company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

In 1959, the company group discovered the world's largest natural gas field in Groningen, the Netherlands; in 1962, it discovered oil with commercial extraction value in Oman; in 1966, it discovered the Liman natural gas field in the northern North Sea (Shell (accounting for 50% of the shares); in 1970, a large oil field was discovered in the northern North Sea; a large offshore gas field was discovered on the northwest continental shelf of Australia.

Shell International Natural Gas Company was established in 1969.
