What are the interesting places in Tibet?
1. Potala Palace. Potala Palace is located on a hill about two kilometers away from the northwest suburb of Lhasa, the capital of Xizang Autonomous Region. In the hearts of local people who believe in Tibetan Buddhism, this hill is like Putuo Mountain where Guanyin Bodhisattva lives, so it is called Potala (meaning Putuo) in Tibetan.
2. Namco is the second largest saltwater lake in China. The largest lake with the highest altitude in the world. "Namco" is in Tibetan, and the Mongolian name of this lake is "Tengger Caspian Sea", both of which mean "Tianhu".
3. Mabian Yongcuo. The natural scenery around it is very beautiful. Since ancient times, Buddhists and Catholics have regarded it as the "world center" of the holy land, the most transparent freshwater lake in China, and one of the three "sacred lakes" in Tibet. It is also the birthplace of four major rivers in Asia. Mabian Yongcuo is 35km east of Pulan County, Ali Prefecture, Tibet, and south of Gangrenbo Qi Feng.
4. Sera Temple. The full name of Sera Temple is "Sera Dacheng Temple", which is one of the six main temples of Gelug Sect in Tibetan Buddhism. Together with drepung monastery and Gandan Temple, it is called the three major temples in Lhasa, which is the latest one among the three major temples. Sera Temple is a national key cultural relic protection unit, located at the foot of Sera Uzi Mountain, 3 kilometers north of Lhasa.
5. Samye Temple. Also known as Cunxiang Temple and Wubian Temple, it is located in Sanye Town, Zhanang County, Shannan region of Tibet, at the foot of Habu Mountain on the north bank of Yarlung Zangbo River. It was founded in the 8th century during the Tubo Dynasty, and it is the first monastery in Tibet where monks who shave their heads become monks. The buildings in the temple are arranged according to the Buddhist cosmology, and the central Buddhist temple has three styles: Tibetan, Han and Indian, so Sanye Temple is also called Sanyang Temple.
