Honshu Island is bounded by Tsutsugaru Strait in the south, and Sakhalin Island is bounded by Zonggu Strait in the north. Sapporo is the administrative center and the largest city in Hokkaido. With Sapporo as the center, Hokkaido has formed the famous Sapporo metropolitan area outside the three major metropolitan areas in Japan.
Extended information:
Historical evolution
Hokkaido, formerly known as Xiayidi, was once inhabited by Ainu people. At the end of 16th century, Matsumae crossed the sea to build Fushan City and occupied the land. After the Russians went south, they explored Hokkaido, Thousand Islands, sakhalin island and other places for the sake of national defense, and soon Hokkaido became the direct jurisdiction of the shogunate.
in p>1868 (the first year of meiji), the new meiji government decided to set up the hakodate court in xiayi, and then changed its name to hakodate prefecture. In 1869, Xiayi Land was renamed Hokkaido, with 11 countries and 86 counties (geographical division). In July of the same year, the development of Hokkaido was officially carried out after the establishment of the Hokkaido Development Ambassador (the Hakodate House was abolished).
in p>1882, the pioneer ambassadors were abolished and replaced by Hakodate, Sapporo and Genji counties. In 1886, Hokkaido Hall was set up instead of three counties. Because of the Meiji government's policy, many Japanese moved from all parts of the mainland, and the upsurge of development flooded into all parts of the road.
in 1869, when the Meiji government asked for a new name for "Xiayidi", Takeshiro Matsuura used the northern names of "North" (きた) and "カィナ _" (the local names of Ainu people) as "カカ".

A detailed introduction of Hokkaido tourist area in Japan
Hokkaido is located at the northernmost part of the Japanese archipelago, with an area of 83,451 square kilometers, accounting for 22% of the total area of Japan. Hokkaido is composed of the big island of Hokkaido and five small islands, such as Liyi, Liwen, Tianmai, Shaoqi and Aoqi, and four islands, commonly known as the northern territory, Housuo, Choishuo, Sedan and Tooth Dance.
Hokkaido used to be called Xiayi, and the aborigines on the island are Ainu people. During the Meiji era (1868 ~ 1912), the Japanese began to move to Hokkaido and devoted themselves to reclaiming this land. Our ancestors cut through thorns with their own hands, opened up primitive woodlands and began to engage in agriculture and fishery. Now, just a century after the reclamation of this virgin land, Hokkaido has developed into one of the few granaries in Japan.
The reason why nature in Hokkaido has been able to maintain its wild and beautiful environment up to now is due to the establishment of 6 national parks, 5 quasi-national parks and 12 Hokkaido National Nature Parks in Hokkaido, and the perfect protection and management of the natural environment.
Hokkaido has beautiful scenery all year round. In spring, flowers and weeds in full bloom all over the mountains make the earth look brand-new. In summer, green mountains and vast seas can refresh the tourists who travel in the mountains and waters. It is the best season for young people to see alpine plants and travel far and wide. Autumn is a season full of red leaves and beautiful scenery. In winter, Hokkaido presents a silvery white world in front of you. Floating ice, beautiful red-crowned cranes and white swans along the coast of Okhotsk constitute a beautiful world of nature. Various winter sightseeing activities carried out in various places enable visiting tourists to enjoy the unique landscape of Hokkaido, and the unique delicacies of Hokkaido will increase the charm of the tourism concept.

It not only represents the buildings of Meiji era in Japan, but also the front yard full of green leaves is the Green State in Sapporo City. The current "red brick building" is actually the second generation. The first generation of buildings were burned down because of incomplete chimneys. On the north side of the hall, a stone tablet of "opening up and leaving the hall" was established. Otaru Canal: Otaru Canal, which used to be the economic center of Hokkaido, is the most important tourist area for Otaru. If there is no Otaru Canal, maybe Otaru is not Otaru, and that kind of elegant travel and romantic mood cannot be equated with Otaru. When the gas lamps are lit at night, coupled with the lighted warehouses, the whole canal area forms a romantic atmosphere.
Mt.Tengu:
Tiangou, with wide eyes and long nose, is a Japanese supernatural figure, while Mt.Tengu, behind Otaru City Street, has the name of Mt.Tengu because the mountain shape looks like Tiangou; Just as every city has its own vantage point, Mt.Tengu has become a must-see place for tourists because it overlooks Otaru and Otaru Port.
the elevation of Mt.Tengu is 523 meters, and it takes about 4 minutes by Mt.Tengu cable car. When the weather is clear, the landscape market can be seen at a glance, and even the Jidan Peninsula, which may not be able to visit because of the short trip, can be seen at a glance. At dusk, the lights are bright and have a flavor, but the night scene is still not comparable to the letter rice.
There are lush trees behind the observatory, and there are trails for forest bathing. Unfortunately, travelers are in a hurry, and they have to go down the mountain after seeing the panoramic view of Otaru City Street, so they have no happiness to enjoy.
