The origin of March 3

March 3 comes from the worship of the Northern Emperor Zhenwu God, and the Zhuang people inherit the ancient Shangsi Festival in China.

March 3rd (Zhuang March 3rd) is one of the national intangible cultural heritage lists in Wuming District, Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. March 3 (the third day of the Zhuang nationality), also known as Gewei Festival, Gepo Festival or Gexian Festival, is a traditional festival for the Zhuang people to worship their ancestors and choose their spouses by songs. It is a traditional festival with Zhuang characteristics gradually formed by the Zhuang people and their ancestors under specific historical conditions and living environment.

In ancient China, there was a record of "March 3rd, Shangsi Festival". In the Tang Dynasty, Du Fu described the customs of the Tang Dynasty in the poem "Two Ways": "There are many tourists in on the third day of the Third-month in the freshening weather and Chang 'an waterfront. Song described the scene of Guilin at 3 o'clock in March today in "March 3 in Guangxi": "The customs of the early old days are flourishing, and the whole city is boiling with Jiangqu".

The Southern Song Dynasty Zhou Dynasty's "Qu Fei answers the generation outside the ridge" records: "It is agreed to meet at the address, and the men and women in the fourth grade get together, each living in a row, tie a ball with five colors, and throw it with the song, which is called flying." When men and women succeed, women get married and men get married. "Qi Fei (now hydrangea) is a common entertainment and affection object in the gathering activities of Zhuang nationality.

Main activities on March 3

On March 3, the Zhuang people mainly had activities such as ancestor worship, singing, mate selection, dinner, singing opera, grabbing fireworks, throwing hydrangeas and beating eggs. In addition, they also enjoy flowers: in March of spring, many flowers begin to bloom, and people can go to parks, flower beds, flower seas and other places to enjoy flowers. Eating traditional foods, such as "cake fragrance", "sweet-scented osmanthus glutinous rice paste" and "flower lake boat fish", are all traditional foods related to March 3.
