On the morning of the 2nd, China Meteorological Bureau sent an expert group to visit the site. According to the analysis, based on the comprehensive meteorological monitoring, meteorological radar monitoring data and on-site investigation and analysis, there was a tornado in the local area during the incident, the wind force was above 12, the main body of the tornado was located on the river, the horizontal scale was less than 1km, and the duration of the tornado was about 15-20 minutes. It is a local, small-scale and sudden strong convective weather. After the sinking of the "Oriental Star" passenger ship, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council attached great importance to the investigation of the incident.
