Most areas of Zhongxiang and Jingshan in the northeast are located at the southern foot of Dahongshan, and the geological characteristics are folded fault-block mountains, which are mainly composed of Paleozoic and Mesozoic carbonate rocks, clastic rocks and Proterozoic metamorphic rocks, forming low mountains or hills.

The highest altitude is Zhaigongyan, Kedian Town, Zhongxiang City, with an altitude of1050m; Dongbao District in the northwest extends from Bashong to Jingshan in Baokang and Nanzhang, and the altitude drops below 1000 meters. The mountain temperature line turns from east to west to southeast, winding to form the jingshan remnant vein.

It is mainly composed of Permian-Triassic limestone, forming low mountains, hills or hills, and valleys and gullies fluctuate gently.

The highest altitude is Peishan in Li Xi Town, Dongbao District, with an altitude of 684 meters. Zhongxiang City, some areas of jingshan county and most areas of Shayang County on both sides of the Han River in south-central China are mainly distributed in Cenozoic subsidence basins, and plain lakes are formed due to river alluvial and lake siltation.

The lowest altitude is the bottom of Shayang County Lake and the riverbed of Panjiawan in Yonglong Town, jingshan county, with an altitude of 27 meters.

The area is flat, rich in soil, densely covered with lakes, interwoven with river networks and criss-crossing river embankments, and it is a concentrated grain and cotton producing area in the city.
