Explanation of weather symbols
1. Clear: It means that the sky is cloudless or although there are scattered clouds, the cloud amount accounts for less than 1/10 of the sky. It is called clear. Sometimes it appears in the sky. Very high and thin clouds, but which have little effect on transmitted sunlight, are also called sunny.
2. Cloudy: When the amount of medium and low clouds in the sky accounts for 4/10~7/10 of the sky area or the amount of high-altitude clouds accounts for 6/10 or more of the sky area, it is called capable. partly cloudy.
3. Overcast: Any medium or low cloud cover accounting for 8/10 or more of the sky area is called overcast. A cloudy day is when the sky is dark and little or no sunlight penetrates the clouds.
4. Light rain or moderate rain: The rainfall in 24 hours is less than 10.0 mm or the rainfall in 1 hour is less than 2.5 mm. It is called light rain. The rainfall in 24 hours is 10.0~24.9 mm or rainfall in 1 hour. When the amount is between 2.5 and 8.0 mm, it becomes moderate rain.
5. Heavy rain: It is called heavy rain when the rainfall in 24 hours is less than 25.0~49.9 mm or the rainfall in 1 hour reaches 8.1~15.9 mm.
6. Heavy rain: When the rainfall within 24 hours reaches or exceeds 50.0 mm and the rainfall within 1 hour reaches or exceeds 16.0 mm, it is called a heavy rain. When the rainfall reaches 100.0 to 199.9 mm, it is called a heavy rainstorm; when the rainfall reaches 200.0 mm, it is called an extremely heavy rainstorm.
7. Hail: It is a kind of solid precipitation. Refers to the spherical or conical ice cubes with a diameter of 5.0 mm that will rain heavily in the clouds. The shape may also be irregular. The individual units are called hailstones, which are composed of alternating transparent and opaque layers. The diameter of large hailstones can be up to 19 centimeter.
8. Thunderstorm: refers to burst rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. It is characterized by short rainfall, sudden start and end, and large changes in rainfall intensity.
9. Sleet: refers to the precipitation phenomenon in which raindrops and wet snow fall to the ground at the same time. When it occurs, the temperature near the ground is slightly above 0°C. When snow falls into this layer of air, part of the snow melts into water droplets.
10. Light snow: refers to snowfall when the horizontal visibility exceeds 1,000 meters or the snowfall amount within 24 hours is less than 2.5 mm.
11. Moderate snow: refers to snowfall when the horizontal visibility exceeds 500 to 1,000 meters or the snowfall amount within 24 hours is less than 2.5 to 5.0 mm.
12. Heavy snow: refers to snowfall when the horizontal visibility is less than 500 meters or the snowfall amount within 24 hours is greater than 5.0 mm.
