Why do my legs get sore when it rains on cloudy days?

1. Rheumatism

Rheumatism is an autoimmune disease caused by rheumatoid streptococcus infection. Rheumatism usually affects the joints, so it is also called rheumatoid arthritis. This is a chronic disease that often requires lifelong treatment and long-term anti-rheumatic drugs.

2. Arthritis

Arthritis refers to an inflammatory reaction that occurs in joints, mostly knee joints, and is usually aseptic inflammation. When it rains on a cloudy day, the air pressure decreases, the intracellular pressure and intra-articular pressure increase relatively, and the viscosity of synovial fluid increases; the stimulation of increased humidity increases the nerve sensitivity of the joints; the drop in temperature on cloudy days causes the temperature of the diseased joints to decrease. The above combined factors will lead to blockage of Qi and blood in the joint cavity, resulting in unbearable knee joint pain on rainy days.

3. Old injuries

The subcutaneous tissue of the injury will form some scars, and the nerve fibers in the scars are very sensitive to external climate changes. When stimulated by cold, dampness, etc., the scar tissue and nearby muscles and blood vessels shrink, and the resistance to cold and dampness decreases. At the same time, scar tissue will shrink as the temperature drops, squeezing the nerve fibers and irritating them, causing pain and discomfort.

4. Catch a cold

Long-term cold exposure of knee joints is also a cause of joint pain. On cloudy and rainy days, large temperature differences will cause muscles and blood vessels to contract, reducing the body's tolerance to pain. At the same time, the viscosity of synovial fluid in joints increases, which increases resistance when joints move, causing joint pain.

If joint discomfort only occurs occasionally on rainy days, it can be explained by catching a cold or muscle strain. However, if knee pain occurs repeatedly on cloudy and rainy days for a long time, there may be the possibility of osteoarthritis or rheumatism. Therefore, it is best to go to the orthopedics and joints department or rheumatology and immunology department of a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible to avoid delaying the condition.
