The meaning of ling

"Ling" is an adjective, which means clear and cool, and is often used to describe the feeling of water or air. For example, "the lake is noisy and quiet in the morning" and "the weather is refreshing and the breath is refreshing".

The word "Ling" has a long history, which can be traced back to the Han Dynasty, and comes from the book Guang Yun. According to textual research, the word is composed of two parts, the pictogram of "water" on the left and the note of "truth" on the right, indicating cold sound. "Ling" was not a common word in ancient times because of its abstract meaning, and it was not widely used until modern Chinese.

In modern Chinese, "spirit" is often used to describe the feeling of temperature, wind and water. For example, "autumn wind blows, the coolness attacks people and blows in one breath" and "after heavy rain, the air is particularly cold" can also be used in rhetoric to enhance the emotional expression of works.
