Main characteristics of squall line weather

The intense squall process has four characteristics:

3. Wide range. The squall line process affected southeastern Shanxi, central and northern Henan, southwestern Shandong, northern Anhui and northwestern Jiangsu, covering an area of 70,000 square kilometers.

4. The disaster is heavy. The disaster has caused 22 deaths (Shangqiu 18, Kaifeng-2 and Jiyuan-2). The affected population in Shangqiu alone reached 24 19200, and 4 142 houses collapsed, resulting in a direct economic loss of 945 million yuan.

The cause of the squall line weather process is the existence of high-altitude cold vortex in Northeast China. The southwest cold air of the high-altitude cold vortex and the radiation warming of the near-surface clear sky jointly stimulated the squall line in the north and east of Henan Province. The meteorological department in the area affected by the squall line released the lightning and gale warning information in time. After the disaster, China Meteorological Bureau has sent a working group to the scene to further investigate the causes and effects of the disaster.
