In 121 AD, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty Liu Che sent General Huo Qubing to lead an army to the Hexi Corridor to attack the Xiongnu. Huo Qubing went south from Juyan and drove the Xiongnu outside Yumen Pass, winning a complete victory.

Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty rewarded him with ten thousand taels of silver and a jar of fine wine. Huo Qubing had always loved soldiers as much as his own son. Huo Qubing is famous. From the Sui and Tang Dynasties to the Republic of China, Jiuquan was renamed Suzhou, which is also the origin of the word "Su" in "Gansu".
