How majestic is the "dam" of the Zhanghe River?

If "Little Qingdao" is the gateway to the scenery of Zhanghe reservoir area in Hubei Province, then Guanyin Dam is the "mountain outside the door". Sailing from Yuetan River, I visited Guanyin Dam for the first time, which was called "Cut to the chase".

Guanyin dam is the main project to intercept the 800-mile Zhanghe River. The dam is 66 meters high and 630 meters long. The old course of Zhanghe River originates from Penglai Cave in Nanzhang County, flows through Yuan 'an, winds here, turns sharply by 90 degrees, passes through Dangyang Yuxi and Herong in the south, reaches Jingzhou City and joins the Yangtze River. The ancient Kannonji is located at this turning point, and now it has settled in the Dragon Palace and become the underwater "Guanyin".

Vice Chairman Dong inspected Zhanghe Reservoir Project in May 1965 and wrote poems, giving a vivid summary of its scale, function and far-reaching significance. The poem says:

Zhangshui comes from Qianfeng, and whenever there is a flash flood in the rainy season,

Qi Xin, a hundred thousand migrant workers, made great contributions in three years.

Four dams, three troughs and two dikes, ten hub projects,

The storage capacity is 300 million cubic meters, thanks to the barren land.

Wandaoling Valley is near Jingmen, a village with a sharp shortage and degradation of tidal flat resources.

Since the Zhanghe River was tamed, fertile land has guaranteed thousands of hectares of food sources.

Yishan once laughed at fools, but fools move water today.

Forcing the Zhanghe River to move eastward, the main canal developed four branches.

The poem "four dams, three troughs and two dikes" summarizes ten key projects of Zhanghe Reservoir. Four dams, namely Kannongji Dam, Jigongjian Dam, Linjiawan Dam and Wangjiawan Dam. The 5.5km-long Jing Qing 'an, Huangjialong and Yaojiachong water tanks lead the reservoir water to Jianghan Plain irrigation area. Two sluices, namely Xujiaxiwan Sluice and Chenjiachong Flood Discharge Sluice. A dike, that is, a flood control dike with a total length of 10 km (later renamed as an auxiliary dam by Governor Zhang Tixue).

The Kannonji Dam faces Tashan Mountain, where there is a monument to martyrs. On March 29th, 1959, five bridges from the residence of migrant workers to the construction site in Jingmen Hougang and Yandun districts were flooded, and four bridges were flooded, only the second bridge could pass. At 7 o'clock in the afternoon, migrant workers returned to camp, and about a thousand people crowded on it, causing the bridge to collapse and 57 1 person to fall into the water. After struggling to rescue, 4 12 people escaped, 159 people died unfortunately, of which 1 1 people died of self-sacrifice. Zhang Tixue, the governor, learned the bad news, went to the scene to deal with it, held a memorial service for ten thousand people, and allocated funds to build a monument.

Climb the mountain and walk 59 stone steps. There are two pine doors to welcome guests. To the north of the Martyrs Monument, the "Soul of Zhanghe River" inscribed by the commander-in-chief Rao is engraved in blue on a white background. The blue background symbolizes the reservoir water, and the blue in the heart reflects the sun and the moon; White words are like white flowers, and sacrificial flowers bloom in the sun.

Standing in front of the martyrs monument, looking around, the reservoir is full of water. It's widest and deepest here (140m), like the mind of a martyr, extremely broad and bright.
